Happy Fourth of July!!!!

It's raining so I won't have to hear all that noise coming from these kids popping firecrackers....It's too wet and besides they need to think about their neighbors and their blue roofs....

  • LOL..I don't have to worry about them as my son doesn't care to pop firecrackers...He doesn't like the loud noise and I think it has something to do with his having ADD and yes, I do think there is a link between ADD and autism....It is not that I don't like fireworks I think that due to Katrina and Rita people should be mindful of the fact that many of our Louisiana people still have "blue roofs" even since last year....There are even blue roofs on mobile homes and being that they have been on there for a while those things are quite dry and rotted and are very able to catch fire....We have been through a lot and everyone must do some sort of sacrificing even the kids....It ain't the first time--think WWI and WWII....Call me mean or cruel but I told my 15 year old brother that he couldn't pop them in my neighborhood....If you read the news they aren't going to ententions for debris clean up in the areas hit by Rita...We don't need any unbridled flames.....We still have a LOT of stuff piled up by the road and I don't need any ignorant kids setting an arsenal of bottle rockets off into a pile of debris and taking entire neighborhoods down....

  • I'm not trying to be mean or overly serious but my town was on the NE side of hurricane Rita's eye wall and the damage sustained here was quiet severe.....This goes past the stuff that you see on the Weather Channel.....We lived it.....

  • When I say ignorant kids I mean that they are uninformed and THEY DON'T THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY DO BEFORE THEY DO IT.....I was having a conversation with one of the women that work in the lab and she was telling me about the field behind her home where kids concoct what is basically described as "bombs" by tying tons of( many) sparklers together and with other parts of firecrackers and a stem (to set all this excitement off) and they place all this stuff in dug out hole in the ground...Well one kid (teenager) blew off half his leg last year and damn near bled to death trying to drive himself to the hospital....He had to be airlifted to the hospital so now we have to use tax payer money because the helicopters needed to patrol that area this year....

  • damn...yeah, when I said that fireworks are half the fun, I should have specified that I meant in a safe manner...sometimes kids are ignorant and don't think clearly with them things...

Just speaking from my perspective, I live in a very quiet town and the most of the children are under 10, so we did fireworks very safely and under adult supervision at all times, plus, quite honestly, there wasn't much damage in Eunice...and my daughter is three, so why not enjoy them with her for the first time, you know?

Though I most certainly understand your point! And if I lived in, well, where you're at, I'm sure that I would feel the same way. And with my parents having lost their home, they didn't do anything special, other than having us go spend some time with them, so I can relate.

And I didn't take you as being too serious or too mean...you have very valid points that should be thought about!

  • They's be crazy to pop any firecrackers today because the bottom just dropped out in the weather category.....I passed by this two story house yesterday and it got badly damaged....They had half of the house's entire contents in the yard because they tried to "tape" the house back together and when the tape lost it's strenght and gave way and the contents fell into the yard.....I don't mind fireworks and people should experience them--especially children....They, like so many things, need to be experienced.....
